New Website under Construction

Project Background
The Solar Tree Project is a student project working through the UC San Diego student chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) in partnership with the up-coming student chapter of American Solar Energy Society (ASES). Our goal is to design, build and test a mobile solar charging station (solar tree) with a focus on providing energy to electric utility vehicles.
The project began with a Request for Proposals (RFP) from the National ESW. In an agreement with SunEdison, ESW sent the RFP to local ESW chapters looking for proposals that met one of the two primary project focuses: Green Island Power Generation and Resource Management or Solar Powered Cargo Ships. UC San Diego's ESW leaders reached out to the local ASES group, the San Diego Renewable Energy Society (SDRES), to collaborate on the Green Island Power Generation and Resource Management project with the intention of also helping to form a UC San Diego student chapter of ASES.
The Solar Tree Project team composed of members of both the UC San Diego ESW and affiliates of ASES submitted their letter of intent to National ESW on December 3rd, 2010. After preliminary approval, the team then worked on the official proposal and gathering faculty support at UC San Diego. After submitting the final proposal on January 21, 2011, we were awarded $10,900 under the ESW/SunEdison Grant.
